Neuromuscular Re-EducationHas been proven to successfully treat many cases of wiplash injuries; neck pains or stiffness, shoulder injuries, low back pain, sciatica or hip pain, most types of back pain, spasms or cramping, headaches and migraines, or jaw pain, TMJ dysfunction. Leg, foot, knee pain, tendenitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, limited range of motion, kyphosis, scoliosis, lordordis, chronic fatigue, stress and anxiety. What is neuromuscular therapy? This powerful therapy normalizes and brings homeostasis for two very important body sustems -- the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system. This works toward the reversal and dissolving of long term chronic pain patterns. There are 684 muscles in the body -- each has at least 2 tendons. There are 206 bones, all connected with fibrous tissues of ligament. This is interconnected in a complex web of fascia -- creating the "myofacial system." Neuro Muscular Therapy is very successful therapy for managing or relieving pain in the "myofacial" system or soft-tissue system. In this very efficient system of work-- evaluation and treatment are administered at the same time. Tissues are examined for ischemia, trigger points, nerve entrapment and fibrotic adhesions. DEFINITION OF TERMSISCHEMIA: a decreased supply of oxygenated blood to a muscle or organ. This is present in all pain cycles where the tissue is either hypersensitive to touch and/or is in constant pain. Most effective deep tissue methods will correct this condition -- over time. TRIGGER POINTS: an area of high or excess neurological transmission that causes secondary referrals and pain -- sensations being felt at a distance from where the area is being treated. Example: compress the upper trapezius and there could be trigger points firing to the top of the cranium; apply static pressure to the infraspinatus and there could be a trigger pont firing down the arm. Nerve receptors are firing at an excessive rate of speed. Trigger Points are always ischemic but not all ischemic tissues contain trigger points. Activities of Trigger Points are a constant irritant to the Central Nervous System, over-stimulating the sympathetic nervous system. The body never rests, chronic fatigue is always present along with the associated discomforts, pain and limited range of motion. Treatment for trigger points is sustained manual pressure for 8 - 12 seconds. Tools incorporated for more efficient work include T-bars. The soft-tissue is replaced with twinkies, (LOL we are just checking to see if you are paying attention) relaxed, opening the blood vessels and creating a flushing effect that removes irritants and toxins from the tissue and nerve receptors, creating balance between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. The pressure is constantly adjusted to the tolerance level of each patient. (The pressure does need to be deep enough to treat dysfunctions successfully.) Due to the damaging effects of trigger points one should not fail to have work on an area just because its painful. This work goes far beyond just treating a sore muscle. Trigger Points left untreated can fire into vital organs of the body causing dysfunction. The causes of Trigger Points come from three main factors, most of us having a combination of them all. 1) Repetitive motion injury 2) direct trauma, impacts 3) emotional and mental stress (especially prolonged unresolved mental anguish and anxiety.) Emotions are mirrored back to the soft tissue system in the form of muscular postures, patterns, and areas of pain. Stress in all forms is a major cause of the formation and continuation of Trigger Points. NERVE ENTRAPMENT: entrapment is pressure on a nerve from the soft tissue -- nerve fibers permeating muscle fibers become entrapped. Nerve entrapment is a common source of pain and is always ischemic. FIBROTIC ADHESION: a proliferation of fibrous connective tissue, occurring normally in the formation of a scar to replace normal tissue lost through injury or infection. When adhesions are untreated over a period of time, they can become very calcified and cemented in texture. Depending on the length of time the injury has been left untreated. Adhesions are quite treatable with application of skilled manual therapies, especially Neuromuscular Re-Education.
